Experience
Ian is a registered psychologist who has held senior management and executive positions for 25 years in government and in Australian and multinational corporations. He has coached executives and managers throughout his diverse career and since 2005, as an executive coach Initially a counselling psychologist, he quickly rose to senior positions in the NSW Department of Education. He was Head of Student Services for a multi-campus university prior to joining Lend Lease, where he led ground-breaking work in leadership development.
Ian's career continued at IBM, where he was responsible for executive and management development across the Asia Pacific region, including global program design. IBM showcased Ian's expertise to demonstrate successful leadership across boundaries. In his career Ian has enjoyed 'start-up 'roles and managed large teams with multi-million dollar budgets. He has also taught counselling and coaching skills and now takes a lead role in developing supervision practice for coaches.
Ian has extensive experience working with managers and leaders at all stages of their careers. Ian's clients appreciate being challenged and encouraged to build on strengths. They experience Ian as agile, professional, caring, astute and insightful. With deeper self-understanding, they are more able to maximise personal effectiveness, people management and business performance.
Now with a portfolio approach, Ian divides his time between inner City living (theatre, music, walking) and the northern beaches (gardening, surfing, reading), with time for challenging work, community contribution and family As an honorary director of Tabitha Foundation Australia, Ian travels annually to Cambodia to build houses for village families, organising groups to share this life-changing experience. Ian is also a marriage celebrant and recently qualified as a barista to improve his coffee making.
