Experience

Phillip started his career as a secondary school teacher. This was at a time when innovation and change were encouraged, and extensively resourced, and significant change in the structuring and provision of schooling was taking place. Phillip was always at the forefront of change, finding innovative ways of leading, managing and working to deliver better outcomes for students, schools and their communities. He quickly progressed through a number of diverse roles, firstly as an internal consultant and program manager and then as an executive leader of state-wide and regional curriculum support, schools and programs. During this time he learned to improvise and adapt in response to complex and challenging situations and became adept at building organisational capability and assisting others to develop their leadership and management skills.

In 2000 Phillip decided to move into a different phase of his life and career. As a result he is now an experienced consultant, organisational change facilitator, executive coach and independent researcher with over 7,500 hours of individual and team coaching experience across the public, not-for-profit and private sectors.

Phillip helps individuals, teams and organisations generate four kinds of practical results:

1. New insights about complex situations and challenges and different, high-leverage options for moving forward.

2. New “tuned-in” relationships with each other and with key stakeholders.

3. Enhanced capacities to prepare for, engage in and influence change.

4. Joint action that “makes progress” in addressing complex issues and challenges.

To do this he leverages nearly 30 years of practical organisational, operational, management and leadership experience as well as his diverse career as a teacher, adult educator, consultant and advisor.

He has particular experience in leading and consulting about business improvement and change projects in volatile and politically sensitive environments.
