Experience

Barry has worked in management and consulting leadership roles in Africa, Australasia and Asia, including over two decades in financial services, working for some of Australia’s leading insurance, superannuation and wealth management organisations. He has broad functional experience, having led areas such as business strategy and planning, training and development, human resources, customer services, operations management, marketing and product development, technology and distribution.

He has experience leading new venture start-ups, both in Australia and overseas, and in the translation of strategy into reality through well executed project management and business program delivery.

As General Manager IM&L, he led the Life, Superannuation and Investment businesses of Zurich Australia, successfully restructuring the business and turning it from a loss making operation into one of healthy profitability. Under his leadership Zurich won the Life Company of the Year award three times and was also voted Investment Fund Manager of the Year.

Barry played a key role in the introduction of eCommerce into AMP Financial Services in Australia, working directly with the head of Australian operations to formulate an integrated strategic response to the challenges posed to the existing AMP business model. Prior to that, he led a number of key strategic initiatives aimed at re-engineering and transforming the distribution capabilities of the AMP’s agency systems.

Barry is returning to the commercial world after three years leading a notfor- profit environmental group that specialises in questioning conventional wisdom and which acts as a long term think tank for the natural support systems needed to maintain a healthy economy and society. He is passionate about physical exercise, bush walking, the eco-economy and his family.
